Collaboration tool for group projects

Online collaboration for group projects is becoming increasingly important as the workplace becomes more fragmented, workers can be located anywhere and tools like Google Docs make sharing worksheets incredibly easy.

KonoLive is another entrant into the market which takes group collaboration into the form of an instant messaging client using the wonders of Adobe AIR. KonoLive is basically a purpose built messaging client made just for exchanging materials and projects. It allows the sharing and working-on of just about anything from documents to video files.

If you're going to use it though, you'd be best to abandon your current IM client within your company or organization and do all of your communication through KonoLive. This is because it would be rather messy communicating on when IM, and sharing data on KonoLive. For a big company or organization, this is obviously not ideal but KonoLive does offer an impressive package and the fact that it now supports Google Docs only broadens it's appeal.

One of the best features of KonoLive is the fact that when a project you're involved in is updated, you are also updated by KonoLive so you can instantly track the latest changes and modifications.

The fact that it goes beyond just documents, to collaboration on video and web projects also means that KonoLive is definitely one to watch for the future.

PROS

  • IM client interface is easy to use
  • Supports online storage via Box.net
  • Supports Google Docs

CONS

  • Would require changing your IM client for best effect
  • A lot of the basic functionality is available on Google Docs
  • Requires Adobe Air

Program available in other languages
